Today we focus on one of the most important aspects of the Medicine and Surgery in English admission test at Cattolica: the 2026 ranking list.

Students often concentrate only on their score. But in reality, it is the ranking position that determines admission. So we need to understand clearly how the ranking works, when it is published, how to read it, how scrolling works, and what happens if you are not admitted at first.

Is the 2026 ranking national or local?

For Medicine and Surgery in English at Cattolica, the ranking is not national.

This is not the centralized national system used for other public Medicine programs in Italy. The procedure is entirely managed by the University. That means:

  • There are no multiple university preferences.
  • There is no single national ranking.
  • Admission depends only on your position in Cattolica’s own ranking.

It is a local university ranking, regulated by the official admission call.

Is there one single final ranking?

No.

For 2026/2027 there are two separate final rankings:

  • One for European Union citizens and equivalent candidates
  • One for non-European Union citizens residing abroad

The available seats are divided between these two groups. The rankings do not merge and are managed independently.

There is no unified final ranking combining all candidates.

When is the 2026 ranking published?

According to the official admission call, the publication dates are:

  • 21 April 2026 for European Union citizens and equivalent candidates
  • 28 April 2026 for non-European Union citizens residing abroad

The ranking is published on the official university website and has legal notification value. No additional individual communication is required.

At the moment, the 2026 rankings are not yet available because the official publication dates have not been reached.

How to read the ranking

The ranking is published using an anonymous identification code.

Each candidate can see:

  • Their position in the ranking
  • Their total score
  • Whether they fall within the number of available seats

Personal names are not displayed. If a candidate does not receive their identification code, it can be requested from the admissions office.

In addition, from 14 April 2026, candidates can access their individual test correction and detailed score online using the credentials provided on test day.

This allows each student to verify their result before the official ranking publication.

How seats are assigned

Seat allocation follows a simple principle: candidates are admitted in order of ranking position until all available seats for each category are filled.

For 2026/2027 the seats are:

  • 40 seats for European Union citizens and equivalent candidates
  • 70 seats for non-European Union citizens residing abroad

If a candidate falls within the available seats, they must complete pre enrolment and enrolment procedures within the specified deadlines.

Failure to complete the required steps within the deadline results in loss of the seat and reallocation through scrolling.

How scrolling works in 2026

Scrolling begins after the initial pre enrolment and enrolment phase.

The official deadlines are:

  • By 6 May 2026 for pre enrolment
  • From 1 July 2026 to 4 September 2026 for enrolment

From 9 September 2026, any remaining vacant seats are reassigned through official scrolling notices.

Each scrolling notice published by the university specifies:

  • The ranking positions involved
  • The deadline to confirm interest
  • The date of seat assignment

Scrolling continues until the Faculty formally declares the ranking closed. After official closure, any remaining vacant seats are no longer reassigned.

Can you be admitted after the first result?

Yes.

If you are not admitted in the first publication, you remain in the ranking and may be called in subsequent scrolling phases.

The 2025/2026 historical data show that scrolling reached significantly lower ranking positions over time. This demonstrates that the initial position is not always final.

For this reason, it is important to understand that admission is a position-based competition, not just a minimum score threshold.

Preparing strategically means aiming to rank as high as possible, not just to pass.

Monitoring performance through realistic simulations and tracking weak areas can significantly impact ranking position. Using structured practice tools with performance analytics allows candidates to understand how they compare statistically, instead of preparing blindly.

What happens in case of a tie?

If two candidates obtain the same total score, the ranking position is determined according to a specific order of subject priorities.

Higher score prevails, in order, in:

  1. Logical reasoning
  2. Biology
  3. Chemistry
  4. Physics
  5. Mathematics
  6. General knowledge
  7. Ethical and religious culture

If the tie persists, the younger candidate is ranked higher.

This means that performance distribution across subjects can influence final ranking placement even when total scores are equal.

What if you are not admitted after all scrolling phases?

Once the Faculty officially closes the ranking, no further scrolling is conducted.

The admission call does not specify dedicated appeal procedures beyond the general rules on access to administrative documents provided by national legislation.

If a candidate is not admitted after final closure, the only formal option is to participate again in the next academic year’s admission procedure.

Understanding the ranking system in advance changes how preparation is approached. The goal is not simply to reach a minimum score but to position yourself competitively within the available seats.

Structured preparation, constant simulation, and measurable improvement reduce uncertainty and allow candidates to approach ranking publication with clarity rather than anxiety.
